Very Nice Untouched Civil War Cartridge Box With It’s Original U.S. Box Plate Certified. A very nice leather early war type  cartridge box.  This cartridge box is an example of the “Pattern 1857” infantry cartridge box. Outer flap exhibits some scuffing and minor crazing. Oval “US” box plate is secured to the face of the box. Closing tab is complete and unbroken. Tab is sewn to the underside of the flap. The inner flap  is very nice condition. This flap covers two cartridge tins that no longer remain. This inner flap retains both “ears” that are tightly attached. The implement pouch is present and also in very good condition. The stitching on the body of the box is tight and unbroken.  Belt straps are sewn and riveted.  Brass finial on the bottom.  Iron buckles were sewn both remain tightly attached. The U.S. box plate exhibits a fantastic “attic” patina and has not been cleaned. This plate has always been on this box by the look. If you are looking for a nice untouched cartridge box that has “the look” here it is!
