Authentic U.S. “Puppy Paw” Belt Plate Recovered At East Cavalry Field Gettysburg Battlefield. Very nice early pick up (Pre-National Park) with all hooks. The plate has some edge loss and has a very nice chocolate brown and slightly green patina . This plate was found at the East Cavalry Field that saw fiece fighting on July 3rd 1863. This is the area where General Custer fought Confederate General JEB Stuart. Most U.S. Cavalry used eagle sword plates so this could very well be a Confederate used plate worn upside down. A very historic area and a remarkable box plate. Relics from this area rarely come up for sale. Comes with a deaccession letter from the Gettysburg Museum of History documenting the provenance of this artifact. Found by one of the old time well-known diggers, all recovery information will be provided in the museum letter.
