In non Working good "wall hanger" condition Civil War period boot pistol This was most likely imported for the U.S. market during the Civil War. There is no date or numbers so it is impossible to accurately date this one. Most likely late 1850's to Early Civil War. It is a non engraved plain version with wood grips.   This gun's spring is broken and  does not work and does not cock and fire.  the grips are a bit loose. The trigger guard is also missing. The gun is about a 36 caliber. A choice uncleaned  display pistol. A favorite of both Confederate and Union soldiers during the Civil War. They worked like and artillery shell, the flash from the gun powder lit a 1-1.5 second fuse that exploded the center charge blowing the bullet up after firing. A brutal round in .58 caliber. The Explosive Gardiner was only used at Chancellorsville and Gettysburg in very limited numbers.
