Blood letting was a medical practice used through out the 18th and most of the 19th centuries. It was thought that eliminating some of the diseased or bad blood would help to quicken the healing process. Most devices resembled small pocket knives and were known as fleams. They were used to make small and efficient cuts on the body or even intentionally cutting into a vain to cause bleeding. The bad blood was caught in little bowls designed especially for the purpose and then the collected blood was discarded as waste. SOLD Original Antique Civil War Veteran's Souvenir Cane Made From Wood From Round Top Gettysburg Battlefield Certified. One of the classic early Gettysburg battlefield souvenirs. These canes were made on the battlefield by individuals using magnifier glasses to burn the art into the wood. The wood came from "Round Top" on the battlefield. The design incorporates Civil War Corps Badges and is finished with an ink stamper saying "Gettysburg July 1,2,3, 1863 Wood From Round Top". Kids would sit out on the battlefield and make these canes from Veterans and tourists in the last quarter of the 19th century up to about 1913 or a bit later. Cane is about 34" an is in excellent condition. A great relic from the Gettysburg Battlefield. All Gettysburg relics were obtained before it was national Park and are 100% legal to own. There will be no more relics from Gettysburg because relic hunting and even taking wood or rocks is now prohibited. Comes museum documentation (COA). $145.00Original Civil War Bullet Recovered At Gettysburg Made Into An Antique Stanhope Early Souvenir Certified. An original very early pickup Gettysburg bullet made into a stanhope of the Pennsylvania Monument. Stanhope bullets were made shortly after the Civil War until the early 2oth century. Shortly after the end of the Civil War, bullets were gathered up from the battlefield stanhope lenses (complete with a variety of images) were ordered from a French manufacturer. The lenses were then locally installed by relic shops. You place the bullet up to your eye and look toward light and the image appears! This artifact is original and The bullet exhibits nice early picup patina. A prized item for civil war collectors and enthusiasts as well as stanhope collectors. The image inside is the Pennsylvania monument and is very much like the image we show. We tried to get a photo of the mini stanhope but could not. The image is excellent and clear. All Gettysburg relics were obtained before it was national Park and are 100% legal to own. There will be no more bullets or relics from Gettysburg because relic hunting is now prohibited.
