Fantastic WWII German Luftwaffe M-40 Factory Re-issue Single Decal Helmet With U.S. Veteran Provenance

    $695.00
Fantastic WWII German Luftwaffe M-40 Factory Re-issue Single Decal Helmet With U.S. Veteran Provenance. The stamped, sheet steel construction helmet retains about 95% of its  rough textured, field-grey over-paint with a few scrapes and scuffs to the original, underlying Luftwaffe blue/grey paint and the base steel with minor surface spotting. The left side of the helmet has a Luftwaffe eagle decal which has been scratched during storage (see photos) .   All three liner retaining rivets are intact and tight. The interior of the helmet has an almost mint light  tan,  leather liner with all eight of its fingers and the original tie string intact. The liner shows only storage wear to the edges, light age and  toning. The liner has a dark black size ink stamp. This helmet was sent back to the factory and re-issued with a rough texture overpaint. It was never used after going back to the factory. there is even one of the vent holes in the liner still retaining one of the pre-punched holes in the leather. This helmet was brought home by U.S. Army Airforce Sgt. John Deere of the 100th Bomb Group 8th Air-force. Deere was shot down during a bombing run and was captured toward the end of the war. He did however mange to get this helmet after his release. His story is documented in the book "Heroes Next Door" (see photo). Besides the scrapes on the decal this helmet is about as close to mint un-issued as you can get. 100% guaranteed to be authentic Museum documentation (COA) included. Certified by The Gettysburg Museum of History. An amazing helmet with named U.S. Veteran provenance.
