    Magnificent Confederate Belt Buckle With Old Ink Tag Recovered By Legendary Relic Hunter And Author Bill Gavin. Found by the man who literally wrote the book on belt buckles. An earlier recovered Confederate roller belt buckle in relic condition, the tongue still moves! This buckle was found at Spotslyvania Court House at General Ewell's line. It has a great old ink tag written by Bill Gavin. Gavin started hunting with early metal detectors in the 1940's. He is considered the founding father of Civil War relic hunting with metal detectors. Gavin wrote the first Civil War Belt buckle guide book in the early 1960's (see photos). Many Confederates wore roller buckles (see the period photos of Confederates wearing the is type of buckle.
