The Iron Cross (Eisernes Kreuz) is one of the most recognized German military decorations, and this selection brings together original examples across its grades and eras: the Iron Cross Second Class (EK2) with its ribbon, the higher Iron Cross First Class (EK1) worn pinned to the tunic, and the rare Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross awarded for extraordinary battlefield leadership. The collection spans both major issues of the medal. The 1914 Iron Cross was awarded during the First World War, while the 1939 Iron Cross carries the swastika at its center and was issued throughout the Second World War. At the top of the series sits the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross (Ritterkreuz). Many pieces retain their original ribbons, envelopes, or presentation cases, and each is individually documented and authenticated by the museum with paperwork verifying its authenticity. New awards are added as they come out of the archive.
