Board member, Chairman

Educator, Historian, Videographer

J.D. Huitt is an award-winning educator, content creator, and historical communicator dedicated to making history accessible and engaging for audiences of all ages. He is the creator and host of The History Underground, a widely followed YouTube channel that connects viewers to the past through immersive storytelling, on-site exploration, and the tangible power of artifacts. His work has garnered millions of views and established him as a trusted voice in public history and digital education.

In partnership with Erik Dorr, owner and curator of the Gettysburg Museum of History, Huitt co-created the acclaimed video series American Artifact. This ongoing collaboration explores rare and meaningful artifacts from the museum’s vast collection, revealing the deeply personal stories behind the men and women who owned or used them. Each episode offers a unique glimpse into America’s military and cultural heritage, bridging the gap between museum scholarship and public engagement.

Beyond his work in digital media, Huitt is a dedicated high school social studies teacher, where he continues to inspire students to think critically about history and its enduring relevance. His passion lies in helping new generations connect with the sacrifices, achievements, and humanity of those who shaped the world we live in.

Huitt’s commitment to education and storytelling aligns closely with the mission of the Gettysburg Museum of History—to preserve history, honor veterans, and inspire others to learn from the past. Through his work, both in the classroom and online, he embodies the belief that history is not just something to study, it is something to experience and share.
