Original U.S. CIVIL WAR ARMY GENERAL STAFF OFFICER’S Coat Size BUTTON Non-Excavated Excellent Condition Certified

    $35.00
Original U.S. CIVIL WAR ARMY GENERAL STAFF OFFICER'S Coat Size BUTTON Non-Excavated Certified by The Gettysburg Museum Of History. The General Staff had an executive role in the Federal Army. After the reorganization of 1836, officers adopted a distinctive "staff" type button. The button shows an eagle with tail, wings, and neck extended from the body on a lined field. The eagle's head faces toward the right, with wing tips pointing upward. In one talon, the raptor holds three to six arrows, while he grips an olive branch with the other. A shield is present at the center and a ring of 21 to 30 stars surrounds the eagle. All buttons have attached shanks and are assorted various backmarks. This is the coat size meaning it’s for the front of the uniform where you would button the uniform not a cuff button that is much smaller.  We have several and will pick the best one for you. These are in excellent condition and retain most of the original gold gilt coating. These are non-dug or non excavated meaning they were brought home by a soldier and not lost on the battlefield. Complete museum documentation (COA) Provided. Please see our other Civil War  offerings too.  Also note when browsing our web site there are several pages of items, at the bottom of the list look for other page numbers.
