  • Original U.S. 1847 Metal “Peace” Powder Flask For Mississippi Rifle Certified By The Gettysburg Museum Of History

    SOLD Original U.S. 1847 Metal "Peace" Powder Flask For Mississippi Rifle Certified. Dated 1847, by Batty. Brass plated copper flask designed to accompany the M1841 “Mississippi” rifle made famous by Jefferson Davis’ regiment during the Mexican War. Measure 9.25” in length, 4” in width and 1.5” in depth. Embossed on both sides with the hand-shake emblem surrounded by stars that also adorned Indian peace medals of the time. Above is a shield-breasted eagle w/out-stretched wings; below is a US shield w/arms. Flask is in fine condition overall; entirely dent free, w/crisp markings and detail. Exhibits darkened patina w/light film of verdigris on one side which in no obscures its detail. Nozzle powder lever moves smoothly and freely. The top unscrews very easy. Its condition and 1847 Mexican War date makes exceptionally desirable. Nice used example showing the expected  age and wear. 100% Guaranteed to be authentic. Complete museum documentation (COA) Provided.
