  • Original WWI German 1918 Wound Badge In Black Certified By The Gettysburg Museum Of History

    SOLD Original WWI German 1918 Wound Badge In Black Certified By The Gettysburg Museum Of History. The Wound Badge was originally established on March 3rd 1918 by Prussian King Wilhelm II to recognize the sacrifice of those wounded during WWI. The badge was instituted in three classes with the class bestowed reflecting the number or severity of the wounds received. The classes consisted of a black badge for one or two wounds, a silver badge for three or four wounds and a gold badge for five or more wounds or loss of a limb or sight.  Die struck, hollow backed, steel construction badge with a black wash. The badge is in the form of a vertical oval, which is more circular then the 1939 pattern WWII badges, with an embossed, high relief, profile of a M16 pattern helmet superimposed over crossed swords on a pebbled base encompassed by an embossed oval laurel leaf wreath. The reverse of the badge is a mirror image of the obverse. Reverse of the badge is complete with its original hinge and pin & catch assembly.  In good condition with expected wear and slight wear of the black  finish.     SOLD Original WWI German Prussian Pickelhaube Spiked Helmet Certified By The Gettysburg Museum Of History. A very nice leather and zinc alloy classic German spiked helmet (Pickelhaube). The leather is very nice with some minor cracking. The liner is soft leather not stiff at all and complete (a rare feature). The chinstrap appears to have been replaced at some point. It has 2 National cockades one of each side instead of the Prussian one. The spike and the eagle are very nice with an even patina. Has a 1916 date stamp inside (see photos). Overall a very nice and good display helmet. The leather liner on this is one of the better ones we have seen in a while. Gettysburg Museum Certified (COA) provided.
