Original German NSDAP (NAZI PARTY) Platterhof Hotel Heavy Silver Split Style Meal Plate Brought Home By A U.S. Veteran Certified Certified. Silver plated serving tray, 12.5 x 9 in., bearing at the top the emblem of the Platterhof hotel, a standing figure of a maiden in a meadow between two mountains, holding an edelweiss in her hands. The maker mark ‘Gebr. Hepp 90′ appears at the bottom, just opposite of the hotel’s emblem. No other markings. Heavily tarnished, quite clear and unaffected. The Platterhof, built in the footprint of an older hotel in which Hitler was believed to have drafted the first chapter of ‘Mein Kampf’, was one of the most modern and opulent hotels in Europe. It was used as a retreat for high-ranking Nazi officials and a venue for state functions until it was converted into a military hospital in 1943. A series of tunnels and bunkers connected the hotel to other official buildings and residences in Obersalzburg. The hotel was heavily damaged by Allied bombing raids in 1945, and stood vacant until being renovated by the US Army as an Armed Forces Recreation Center in 1952, upon which it was renamed the General Walker Hotel, after an American officer killed in action in Korea. The hotel operated in this capacity until 1995, and it was demolished in 2000.

This silvered meal plate is the style that is split at the one quarter portion so that for those fussy eaters out there that didn’t want their vegetables and meat mixed this splitting served the purpose.

This plate is an oval design and at the longest diameter it is 14 and a half inches. On the upper edge is it stamped with the Platterhof logo featuring the peasant woman in front of two mountains. There are small  dents in the tray and it remains in excellent condition.  with the edges rolled. Shows the expected age, wear and use.  In good but used condition . Some tarnish on the back.
