Authentic Civil War Excavated Relic Eagle Breast Plate Recovered In Chancellorsville Virginia. For the collector who wants an authentic battlefield ground dug relic. This example was pieced by a bayonet! One can clearly see the triangular bladed piece mark from back to front. This plate was recovered by Legendary Relic Hunter And Author Bill Gavin. Found by the man who literally wrote the book on belt buckles. Gavin started hunting with early metal detectors in the 1940’s. He is considered the founding father of Civil War relic hunting with metal detectors. Gavin wrote the first Civil War Belt buckle guide book in the early 1960’s (See photos) A very nice chocolate brown patina, the way we like them. It has a combat used look . A solid chocolate brown beautiful plate from a very historical battlefield. Recovered on private property with permission. This is an older recovered two loop hook plate. This has the word “Chancellorsville” in ink on a tag on the back.
