Original WWII German Army (Heer) M-43 Cap Soldier Modified U.S. Veteran Bring Back. A very interesting German M-43 cap this was an indirect Vet purchase (obtained by the Museum from the U.S. Veteran's Grandson). Late war construction reworked, field-grey wool/rayon blend cap. Cap features fold down side and back panels with scalloped front with two pebbled button closure. Cloth covered visor with pliable internal stiffener. Visor has a single row of reinforcement stitching to bottom forward edge and raised lip at top of forward edge. Machine woven national eagle in matte mouse grey threads, with national tri-color cockade, on a woven green rayon base. Insignia is neatly stitched to front center of cap. The German soldier (or U.S. Veteran who obtained it) placed a metal Army (Heer) eagle over the original cloth eagle. It has been on the cap since the war (see photos) Interior fully lined in green/grey cotton/rayon. inside has the maker mark stamps (see photos). Both pebbled buttons have their original stitching. Nice period combat worn and used cap captured by a U.S. Veteran and brought home as a war trophy. Fresh “out of the woods” this has never been in any other collection.
