Original Civil War Excavated Relic 1858 Model Hardee Hat Insignia Recovered In Central Virginia Certified. Recovered in the Central, VA area. The stamped brass pin features an eagle clutching arrows and olive branch with ribbon, stars, and sun rays over its head. This excavated specimen is in nearly perfect condition. Only one of the two loops on the back remains but otherwise this is exceptionally nice. The patina is an even light brown color. The Hardee hat pin used on the regulation 1858 enlisted man’s black felt dress hat to hold the brim up on one side. It was originally introduced in 1851 as a pompon eagle, attached to the base of the pompon holder in the front of the 1851 cap (shako). With the adoption of the “Hardee” hat by the entire army in 1858, this metal plate was reused to loop the side of the hat up. Recovered what was then off National Park property and is 100% Legal and 100% authentic. All of the hooks are gone , in relic condition (see photos). Some loos on one side (see photos) This is one of the  early pick-up relics from an old collection. Eagle Hardee Hat insignia this nice are very difficult to find and only come from old collections.
