Original Civil War Period Cap & Ball 1835 Under Hammer Percussion Boot Pistol by Bacon & Co of Norwich CT Certified. A very interesting U.S. made Percussion “Boot” Pistol manufactured in the 1830s by the Bacon Manufacturing Company of Norwich, Connecticut. Measuring 9 inches in overall length, this slender pistol is nicely maker marked on the octagonal flat of the rear portion of the 6-inch barrel and also marked Cast Steel” on another flat with Serial No.57. The boot pistol was considered one of the ultimate personal defense weapons of the day as it could be inserted and concealed in a man’s boot for easy quick access. Makes a wonderful conversation piece.  A very interesting civil war pistol with lots of eye appeal.  This gun’s spring is tight and  it does work and does fire. The very tip of the hammer is missing making it a bit more difficult to cock. Many weapons like this were used during the Civil War. A classic Civil War period pistol and A choice functioning display gun. A favorite of both Confederate and Union soldiers during the Civil War.
