The plate has a beautiful chocolate brown patina . It is very solid in early battlefield pick up condition with very little wear other than the brown patina, very mild pitting. This plate was found at Little Round Top in the 20th Maine area. Little Round Top is the most iconic spot on the Gettysburg battlefield and was where the 20th Maine rallied against the Confederate Alabama troops after Sickles advance on July 2, 1863. It was also where massive causalities were accrued on July 2nd. A very historic area and a remarkably rare U.S. box plate. Relics from this area rarely come up for sale. Comes with a deaccession letter from the Gettysburg Museum of History documenting the provenance of this artifact. Originally recovered by legendary old time relic hunter Al Flickinger.     Original Civil War .32 Caliber DD Cone Marked Uhlinger Pistol Low Number. Uhlinger’s D.D. CONE marked, .32 rimfire pistols (Flayderman 8A-184) with a 4 ¾” octagonal barrel. The pistol is typical of the Uhlinger guns in that it is only marked with the trade name D.D. CONE / WASHINGTON D.C. on top of the barrel flat and with the serial number 1121. The serial number is found externally on the bottom of the grip frame, under the barrel (hidden by the ejector rod), on the side of the cylinder and on the inner edge of the loading gate. It is also found stamped on the inside of the two-piece rosewood grips. . This gun has no condition issues, except slight surface mild pitting (see photos) and small chip in the hammer that does not effect the gun's works.     Original Civil War .44 Caliber Starr Double Action Revolver   There is no date or numbers so it is impossible to accurately date this one, but it is Civil War.  This is a true "double action" pulling the trigger cocks the gun, pulling the 2nd back trigger fires the gun.The loading lever is still intact and works well. The spring is tight and smooth and  it does work and cock and fire.  The chamber revolves perfectly. A beautiful massive display pistol.  Many Civil War soldiers carried private purchase “back up” weapons as illustrated in the photo above.
