A WWII Waffen SS combat M-42 single decal helmet. This helmet has an EF64 size and a liner with cut chin strap. This was cut from a wounded soldier, more about this later. The helmet has some loss of paint and the liner is stiff from poor storage. This helmet has a fantastic salty been there look. This helmet was bought by us years ago and was traded to a friend and now we have it back. We bought this from the grandson of a U.S. Army Nurse who was sent to the front in the desperate hours of the Battle of the Bulge. As the Germans were finally pushed back some wounded Germans were bring treated. This Army nurse treated a young German Waffen SS soldier and cut his helmet strap to remove this helmet. The patient died of his wounds and the Nurse decided to keep this helmet from the dreaded SS Solider she treated. This is just a family story but an interesting one. The name and photos of the Nurse was promised to us but that never materialized. The helmet was kept in the Nurse’s basement so some lose to the liner is evident. If you want a true combat used Battle Of the Bulge Authentic Waffen SS combat helmet then this is a great piece. Nice period used helmet captured by a U.S. Veteran and brought home as a war trophy.
