Outstanding RARE Original WWII U.S. 101st Airborne 506 Parachute Infantry Regiment Full Size Patch Certified By The Gettysburg Museum Of History. The 506th PIR Para-Dice (Pair-O-Dice) Pocket Patch design is attributed to Bill Donnan and/or Harold Donaghe (both from B Company, 1st BN, 506th PIR), who created it at Camp Toccoa, GA in the summer of 1942. Joe Witzerman (HQ, 2nd BN, 506th PIR) did the artwork. Joe was later transferred to a special Army artist unit. This distinctive “Para-Dice” pocket patch (dice showing 5 & 6 with a ‘0’ for 506th, eagle/parachute) signifying their airborne role, and the official 101st Airborne “Screaming Eagle” patch (worn on the shoulder) after joining the Division. This patch represented the unit’s airborne identity and combat role and was worn on the left pocket. However, since this was a regimental insignia, it was not an authorized patch once the 506th PIR was attached to the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, NC, on June 1, 1943.  Circular pocket patch which measures approx.. 4″ in diameter depicting two dice reading ‘5’ and ‘6’, with a large black ‘0’ t the center, and a diving eagle under a parachute canopy in the center symbolizing the 506th attacking from the sky. Embroidered on twill with a very fine cheesecloth backing.
