OUTSTANDING “Night Of The Long Knives” Historic SIGNED (AUTOGRAPHED) BY ADOLF HITLER. – a handwritten ink signature on a single sheet.Adolf Hitler – Typed Letter Signed on Night of Long Knives. A typed letter on “Adolf Hitler” letterhead, dated Berlin, 30 June 1934, which was the start of the Night of the Long Knives – addressed to Josef Hübler of Prinkofen, near Ergoldsbach, Bavaria. The letter accepts a request that the writer take on godparentship for the recipient’s ninth child, closing “Mit deutschem Gruss”. Translation – Dear Mr. Hübler, I was informed today of the request that I take on the godparentship of your 9th child. I am glad to fulfill this request and accept the godparentship. I wish your son all the best for his future life. With German greetings! Adolf Hitler. The Night of the Long Knives was a purge carried out by the Nazi regime from June 30 to July 2, 1934 — the same date as this letter. Hitler ordered the SS and Gestapo to arrest and execute the leadership of the SA (the Brownshirts), including its chief, Ernst Röhm, along with a number of other political opponents and rivals. The official justification was that Röhm and the SA leadership were plotting a coup. The real motive was consolidating power: the SA’s size and Röhm’s ambitions had become a threat to Hitler’s control, to the army’s standing, and to conservative allies he needed.
