Original WWII German M-42 Camo Helmet Brought Home By A U.S. 29th Division Veteran Certified By The Gettysburg Museum Of History. The helmet retains about 80% of its field-applied, NORMANDY PATTERN camouflage paint in shade of green-tans, with spots of the original brown paint just visible and some wear to the base metal.  All three liner retaining rivets are intact. The age and usage  tan M31 leather liner shows slight chafe wear to the edges and has slight surface wear.  It is very soft and flexible, and the fingers are intact. The reverse interior neck guard apron serial/lot number. NS-64 for maker  Vereinigte Deutsche Nikelwerke, Schwerte, Germany side 64. This is an M42 NS64 mid war produced helmet with a rear lot number of D292. According to Brian Ice’s lot data book this would place the helmet’s production date to somewhere in early 1943 leaving the factory floor as a single decal Heer shortly before it was decided to stop having any decals at all to speed up the production process. It has the original owner’s name painted inside. Chin strap is still there with the maker (see photos).  This helmet is what collectors call a “One Looker” meaning it needs no scrutiny or closer looks to establish its authenticity.  Authentic Normandy camouflage German helmets are EXTREMELY desirable and the value’s keep going up!  An outstanding WWII U.S. 29th Division Veteran bring back helmet. This was sourced fairly closely to Gettysburg from the family.
